Celebrating the Joy of Mathematics

History has always made India proud to be its culture, traditions, wealth, knowledge or science. We have been the leaders in many fields and what makes us the proudest is Indian Mathematics.
Indian mathematics traces back its roots to the Harappa civilization and the Vedic period. As indicated by the analysis of Harappan weights and measures a decimal system was already in use in India while the world came to know about it a while later. Also, in the Vedic period evidence of mathematical calculations can be seen in the Vedas which are associated with spiritual and religious texts and content.

Apart from us being the firsts to use the digit "zero" we have had some great mathematicians of all time such as Srinivasa Ramanujan, Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Vashistha Narayana Singh, etc. These personalities contributed immensely to the development of mathematics in India and the world and made our country proud.

A few years before, India decided to celebrate this pride at the birthday of one of the greatest mathematicians of all time Srinivasa Ramanujan on 22nd December. Hence, since 2012 India celebrates December 22 as “National Mathematics Day”. Ramanujan contributed greatly towards mathematics by giving his ideas to concepts such as mathematical analysis, infinite series, number theory, elliptic integrals, continued fractions, and the Riemann series.

Though Ramanujan made great histories in mathematics the joy in simple mathematics is no less. Students learn the subject from a very early age and are equally curious and interested to learn more about the wonders of mathematics and that is the reason teachers and parents look for various ways to teach this subject and make it even for more fun for the kids.

Mathematics is such a subject that is not only limited to textbooks but its applications can be seen in real life as well. Hence, to see these applications it is important that Math Competitions are organized for kids. Below are mentioned a few advantages of learning mathematics:

·Good for brain: It has been proved through research that learning mathematics and practicing it makes the kids smarter and that they can use certain parts of the brain more efficiently. Also, it has been seen that such kids have more grey matter in their brains.

·Helps in handling money: This might seem to be something very basic but it is truly very necessary. Basics of mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division help individuals handling money while he is out all by himself. Kids at some point in time need to learn how to balance money and spend it rightly.

·Helps in developing problem-solving ability: Mathematics is like a game with levels in it. Each time you learn a new trick or concept in this case you need to test it out by solving problems. Hence, at times it will be very easy while at other times it will surely check your patience. In this way, mathematics helps in developing the problem-solving ability as well which is very essential in today`s scenario.

·Career options: People having a good knowledge of mathematics have a lot of career options to choose from. These career options are very well paid and stable.
Hence, if started from an early stage the subject can teach them a lot of things and what better than events organized at various schools for Mathematics Day Activities For Kids to give them an opportunity to test their knowledge in the subject.
