Tips for Indian Parents to Choose Best Schools in Singapore

Imagine allowing your child to study in Singapore, the safest and secure country in Asia. Singapore, also known as the lion city or the garden city, is known for its peaceful environment and its breathtaking tourist sites such as the Marina sand bays, Singapore zoo, and China Town, to mention a few. Singapore also has rich and diverse cultures developed due to the high number of immigrants to the country.
One of Singapore's many positive attributes is that it prioritizes education, with most of the students having exceptional performance in international examinations. However, many Indian parents face a dilemma in choosing the best high school for their children in Singapore.
 Indian parents should consider the following tips to help choose the best school for their children in Singapore;
1.   Parents Preference
What kind of school would you like to enrol your child in? There are three categories of schools for Indian children;

  • Singapore local schools. These are schools fully funded by the Singapore local government and therefore follow the curriculum developed by Singapore's ministry of education. One of the best qualities of these schools is that they allow students to choose Indian languages. However, for these schools, Singapore citizens are prioritized, and an Indian child gets a chance whenever a vacancy arises.
  • Indian international schools. These are popular schools among Indian parents. The schools are privately owned and offer the Indian curriculum, such as the CBSE. Indian international schools strive to offer quality education to Indian learners. Some of the Indian international schools in Singapore include the Global Indian International Schools (GIIS).
  • Other international schools. These are privately owned schools in Singapore by other organizations and countries. Such schools include the German International School and the One World School, to mention a few.

So as an Indian parent, it is wise that you decide on the school you want to enrol your child from these three categories. There is no cause for alarm if you do not get a Singapore local school vacancy. There are plenty of other options to choose from.
2.   Academic Excellence
Every parent wants their children to produce good grades. Therefore, a parent should be on the lookout for a school with a reputation for academic excellence.
The question is, how will you know that a school excels in academic performance? You can tell a school with good performance through;

  • Schools records. You could ask a school you consider for a record of their previous performance, for maybe five years. With the record, you could make a judgment on whether to enrol your kid in the school or to keep looking.
  • Testimonials. The school you may be considering may have a website. You could look up the website reviews from parents who have had their kids in that particular school, or it could be a review by alumni. Reviews help in making an informed decision.

A school's performance goes a long way in guiding you as the parent on education quality in a particular school.
3.   Teacher competency
Consider the teacher's qualifications, experience, and professionalism before settling for a specific school. Testimonials and recommendations, plus excellent academic performance and student discipline, are a reflection of teacher competency. Therefore, you need to perform a thorough search on the teacher's performance before enrolling your child in any school in Singapore.
For a child to gain quality education, which reflects good grades, they must be under the guidance of a competent and qualified teacher. It would be best if you entrusted your child to only the best knowledge givers.
4.   Adequate facilities
 Ensure that the school you consider has the necessary amenities to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills, from well-equipped libraries with up-to-date books to dated laboratories for practical experiments and good playgrounds.
It is wise that while considering the school's facilities, you also consider your child's talent and gifts. For instance, suppose your child is a talented singer; in that case, the school in Singapore you choose should have a music room with all the necessary instruments to nurture your child's talent.
5.   University Placements
Singapore schools, such as the Global Indian International School, helps their learners on career choices and helps them get into the university of their choice. As a parent, it may be overwhelming to help your child choose a career for themselves, so if you enrol your child in a school that equips your child with knowledge and information on career choices, it'll go a long way.
As you are an Indian parent, considering Indian International schools, such as the Global Indian International Schools that will offer an Indian curriculum for your child's holistic development, is the best option. However, whichever your preference, consider these tips to help make the choice of a school for your child worthwhile. All the best in your choice!
