Art Club

Art Club

The Falcon Nation can get together on Thursdays right after school in room 121 to meet at the Art Club! The Art Club gets together to make drawings, costumes, sculptures and more. Banners and other creative projects made by the Art Club have previously been displayed around the school, and all throughout Davenport! Not only are there contests and community projects that Falcons can take part in in the Art Club; Falcons can also work on their own projects. The best part? No previous experience with art or art credits required! In the words of Mr. Schaeffer: “We want kids who want to create, and be willing to try new things. We are open to anyone willing to open their doors to trying art.”

French Club

French Club

French class is great, but for those who want to get more into the French culture and language, it might not be enough. Due to this, the French Club’s doors are open to anyone currently enrolled in French, or those taking it in the future! The French Club has not only gotten involved by collecting cans for the Hunger Drive, but also does activities such as watching French movies, eating French food, going to French restaurants, and has gone to hockey games. There are also leadership positions available and ready to go on college applications! The French Club is mostly student run, and therefore doesn’t have a set schedule yet, but Falcons who are interested can contact Mme Castellicio via email, or they can find her in room 114!

Leo Club

Leo Club

When asked what kinds of kids she would like to join the Leo Club, Mrs. Hansen’s answer was: “Kind, decent human beings. That’s all I care about.” In the Leo Club, Falcons are able to get involved with volunteer work in the school and the community. They have previously gotten involved with collecting cans and money for the Hunger Drive, worked at the Festival of Trees, raised money for West’s Special Ed department, and so much more! In the Leo Club, Falcons have meetings to go to every Wednesday after school in room 111, and also have events out of the school that they can sign up for. Time spent working with the Leo Club are also volunteer hours that can be put on college applications, resumes, and can be put toward getting to wear a cord at graduation.

HOSA

HOSA

Calling all future nurses, doctors, epidemiologists, psychologists, and also those who are just interested in seeing what biomedicine is about; HOSA might be for you! It’s ran by Mr. Yoder in room 119, and although it isn’t starting up until term 2 of this year due to COVID, it might still be helpful to Falcons interested in a health science related career pathway. HOSA goes to health science related conferences, brings in guest speakers in health science careers, and typically helps out with the Blood Drive. Students in HOSA at West have also previously had success at competitions the club partakes in, with two Falcons being state champions in the public speaking and medical terminology portions of the conference. They only meet once a month, and scholarship opportunities are presented through the club. The health sciences have never looked better!

Drama Club

Drama Club

The Drama Club meets for another day of acting, building, bonding, and more every Tuesday after school in the Aud! There are no auditions required to join the Drama Club; only a want to help out! Acting isn't the only thing the Drama Club does, Falcons are also able to help out with making art for productions, operating the stage lights, and more. Being in the Drama Club can also help Falcons who would like to be in auditioned productions such as the school musical and play! Mr. Anderson, the advisor of the Drama Club, believes that Drama Club is great for those who want to both work hard and have fun. He said, “The best part about it...is that it doesn’t feel like work, when we’re coming together and everybody’s having a good time.” Falcons who are ready to push themselves in West’s theater program should check out the Drama Club today!
